49 year old Shawn DeFreece of Ravenwood was arrested by the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office March 21st for stealing water for nearly a decade. DeFreece stole a water meter from a rural Ravenwood man after having his service cut in 2009 for non-payment of nearly $1,000. The stolen meter was found and over 1.7 million gallons was taken over the 10 year period. The stolen water costs nearly $20,000. DeFreece faces a prison term of up to 14 years on one count and a fine of $2,000 or up to a year in the county jail on the other charge. He is currently free on bond.
