For the second time in three weeks the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team (9-1 overall, 2-0 MIAA) had a duo honored as the MIAA volleyball players of the week.
Junior Maddy Ahrens (Appleton, Wisconsin) is the specialist of the week and junior Hallie Sidney (Chesterfield, Missouri) is the co-hitter of the week. Ahrens and Sidney led the Bearcats to a 2-0 start in MIAA play with a five-set home win over Missouri Western and a four-set win at No. 12-ranked Central Missouri.
Ahrens averaged 11.33 assists per set and 2.44 digs per set. Ahrens secured a team-high seven service aces in the two matches. Ahrens posted a double-double in both wins. Ahrens handed out 58 assists, secured 12 digs and delivered five service aces in a five-set victory over Missouri Western. Ahrens added two kills and a block against the Griffons. Ahrens tallied 44 assists, 10 digs, four blocks, two service aces and a kill in a 3-1 win at No. 12-ranked Central Missouri. Ahrens dished out 44 assists
Sidney powered Northwest with a pair of 20-plus kill performances to initiate MIAA play. Sidney averaged 4.89 kills per set and hit .260. Sidney notched 23 kills and 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season in a five-set win over Missouri Western. Sidney connected on 21 kills, nine digs and four blocks in a 3-1 road win over No. 12-ranked Central Missouri.
Northwest will be on the road again this weekend with matches at Pittsburg State (Friday, 7 p.m.) and at Missouri Southern (Saturday, 1 p.m.).
