JOPLIN, Missouri – The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat cross country teams competed in the Southern Stampede. The women took twentieth as a team in the 5k, and the men took second in the 8k.
The women were led by Caroline Ross, who placed 42nd in the meet. She ran a time of 18:42.73, which is good for the fourteenth fastest 5k in Northwest history. Ross was followed by Keely Danielsen, Erinn Fitzgerald, Lauren Graham, Amaya Hernandez, and Shayleigh James.
The men put forth a strong performance at Joplin, which featured four finishers in the top 16. Jhordan Ccope led the charge for the Bearcats with a second place finish and a time of 24:22.77, which is the third fastest time in Northwest history. He was followed by Augostine Lisoreng in sixth, who ran a time of 24:46.44, which is the fourteenth fastest in program history. Karim Achengli placed eighth, Mike Lagat placed sixteenth, and Jacob Norris placed 43rd to round out the scorers for Northwest.
Northwest will be back in action next Saturday at the Griffon Open in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
