MIAA Volleyball Championship To Be Held At Hy-Vee Arena

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced that the 2019 MIAA Volleyball Championship will be played at Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City, Missouri on November 21-23. This year’s tournament will feature a new format with eight teams playing at the championship venue over three days.

“The MIAA office and our member schools are excited to announce that the 2019 MIAA Volleyball Championship will take place in one of the most historic sports venues in the nation,” said MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy. “Hy-Vee Arena is a venue that has played host to dozens of NCAA and conference championships during the past 45 years, and the decision to bring this tournament to Kansas City aligns with our mission to create the best possible experiences for MIAA student-athletes.”

The Association will be the first to conduct a NCAA Championship event in the newly renovated Hy-Vee Arena which was formerly Kemper Arena. As Kemper Arena, the site hosted the 1988 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four and 1998 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four. The venue has also hosted numerous NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament games along with the Big Eight and Big 12 Conference Basketball Tournaments from 1977 to 2002 and then again in 2005. The 2019 Volleyball Championship will also be held away from a campus site for the first time in the conference’s history.

“We’re excited to have the MIAA Volleyball Championship as the first NCAA Championship at Hy-Vee Arena. It’s a great venue not only for the student-athletes but for the fans to be so close to the action in such a historic venue,” said Hy-Vee Arena Senior Sales Manager Chad Tower. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the MIAA and hosting events like this at Hy-Vee Arena.”

Semifinal matches will be on Friday, November 22 with the Championship match on Saturday, November 23. Each match of the 2019 Volleyball Championship will be streamed live on The MIAA Network.
