KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Defending MIAA Women’s Cross Country champion, Pittsburg State was selected first in the 2019 MIAA Women’s Cross Country Coaches Preseason Poll. The Gorillas received eight first-place votes and totaled 138 points for the top spot.
PSU slightly edged out Missouri Southern who was tabbed second in the preseason poll. MSSU had 135 points with three first-place votes. Nebraska Kearney received 119 points and one first-place vote to be slotted third. Fort Hays State came in at fourth with 111 points and Washburn rounded out the top five with 96 points.
Central Missouri was voted sixth and received the final first-place vote. Missouri Western came in seventh place followed by Northwest Missouri in eighth place. Newman was ninth as Central Oklahoma was slotted 10th and Emporia State was 11th. Rogers finished at 12th and Lincoln rounded out the preseason poll.
The first meet of the 2019 Cross Country season will be on Friday, September 6 with the Association’s championship meet on Saturday, October 26 at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Missouri. To see the complete schedule for the Women’s Cross Country season, click here.
