Northwest Missouri State Picked 5th In MIAA Preseason Volleyball Coaches Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced the 2019 Preseason Volleyball Coaches Poll. Washburn earned the top spot heading into the season after winning the NCAA Central Regional and advancing the national championship semifinal in 2018.

The Ichabods received 96 points in the poll for the top spot. WU also had seven first-place votes from the coaches. Defending MIAA regular season and tournament champions, Nebraska Kearney trailed Washburn by just six points to finish second. The Lopers also picked up two first-place votes in the poll. Central Missouri was tabbed third with 83 points and two first-place votes. Central Oklahoma came in fourth with 71 points and Northwest Missouri was fifth with 67 points.

Missouri Western finished sixth in the poll with Pittsburg State at seventh. In eighth place was Emporia State followed by Missouri Southern in ninth. Fort Hays State was selected 10th as Newman rounded out the poll. The 2019 season will also be the first season for the Jets as an associate member in the MIAA.

The 2019 Volleyball season begins on Thursday, September 5 with the first conference match set for Tuesday, September 17. To see the complete schedule for each team in the association, please click here.
