Northwest Missouri State University head men’s basketball coach Ben McCollum has announced the signing of Mitch Mascari from Geneva High School in Illinois and Christian Stanislav from Glenwood High School in Iowa.
“We are very excited that Mitch and Christian will be joining our program,” McCollum said. “Both are fantastic kids that come from great families.”
Mascari, a 6-5 shooting guard, completed a senior season for the books this season with Geneva High School. The Vikings made it to the quarterfinals of the 4A Illinois Basketball Tournament and finished the season 32-2, a school record for wins. Mascari finished the season averaging 14 points per game while shooting 44% from the field.
“Mitch is coming from a winning program where he has been coached at a high level for four years,” McCollum said. “His ability to space the floor is something we really value in our program. His elite shooting sets up his ability to attack of the bounce and make plays for himself and others.”
Stanislav, a 6-4 shooting guard, will join the Bearcats after a 14-7 senior season and a 3A Iowa State Championship his junior year. During his senior year, Stanislav averaged 20.8 points per game while shooting 52% from the field. He also hauled in 8.2 rebounds per game. On top of his success on the basketball court, Stanislav was also a standout on the track, where he ran an 11.43 100-meter dash this spring.
“Christian can really shoot the ball, on top of being a great all-around athlete,” McCollum said. “He knows what it takes to win which will certainly help him in our program.”
In the fall, McCollum signed Wes Dreamer to initiate the signing class.
