After opening briefly, I-29 was closed again Wednesday morning from the Highway 71 exit north to Highway 34/Glenwood exit in Iowa.
A mandatory evacuation was issued Wednesday morning for the City of Craig due to more flooding. In addition a shelter has been set up in Mound City at the First Christian Church for those affected.
The National Weather Service says the tornado that originated in Kansas and struck the Kansas City area Tuesday night was an EF-4 with peak winds estimated at 170 MPH. It was on the ground for nearly 32 miles.
The other tornado that was near Excelsior Springs & Kearney was an EF-2 with top winds estimated at 115 MPH. It was on the ground for approximately 6 miles.
There were no fatalities; 18 people were injured.
