MARYVILLE, Missouri – The No. 2-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men’s basketball team reached the century mark for the second time this season and improved to 8-0 with a 100-66 win over Midland University at Bearcat Arena.
Northwest shot a season-best 62.3 percent from the floor and had four players in double figures led by 19 points each from Ryan Hawkins and Trevor Hudgins. Hawkins, the leading rebounder in the MIAA, grabbed a team-best eight boards while shooting 8-of-9 from the field. Hudgins dished out a game-high 10 assists.
Joey Witthus buried six three-pointers and scored 18 points in 24 minutes of action. Diego Bernard also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points.
Northwest went 19-of-33 (57.6 percent) in the first half and upped it in the second half by making 19-of-28 (67.9 percent). Northwest was 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from three-point range.
The Bearcats will begin MIAA play Thursday at home against Lincoln University. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. following the women’s contest which will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
