The only double deck interstate bridge in Missouri needs $50 million dollars in repairs to improve its “bents or piers” that help holds the structure in the air. I-229 in St Joseph went through a routine inspection by MODOT officials. Northwest District Maintenance Traffic Engineer Tonya Lohman says despite the needed repairs, the bridge will not have to be closed down. Lohman stresses that the bridge is structurally sound and safe. The repairs would extend the life of the bridge 20-25 years.
