Lafayette High School Placed Under “Soft Lockdown” For Search Of Illegal Substances

Lafayette High School was placed on a soft lockdown Wednesday morning for 30 minutes.  St Joseph Police made two arrests after officers conducted a random banned substance search of tobacco, alcohol and drugs.  The arrested students were at least 17 years old and police made another referral for a person under the age of 17 to juvenile authorities.  Superintendent Dr Doug Van Zyl said in part that the search was made to “provide a safe, and secure school environment for students and staff at all schools throughout the district.”  District Communications Director Bridget Blevins says this will not be the only random search conducted during the year.
