JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens announced Tuesday that he is resigning. His departure will become official at 5 p.m. Friday.
A House investigatory committee had subpoenaed Greitens to testify next Monday.
Some fellow Republicans had urged his resignation amid criminal and legislative investigations stemming from an extramarital affair and campaign finance questions.
Greitens’ departure will give Republicans a chance to reunify at the start of a summer campaign season in which they’re seeking to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.
