MODOT To Begin Repair Of 12 Mile Stretch Of Highway 71 Monday

The Missouri Department of Transportation says contractors hope to resurface the nearly 12-mile section of U.S. Route 71 between Route A in Nodaway County and Route 48 in Andrew County starting Monday, weather permitting.  Crews will resurface the northbound lanes first, beginning at Route 48 and continuing north to Route A. They will then move to the southbound lanes.

They will work weekdays during daylight hours. During the resurfacing project, one lane each direction of U.S. Route 71 will remain open. Motorists are advised to use caution as equipment and crews will be very close to the open lane of traffic.

Most of the driving surface work should be complete by the end of May. After the new surface is laid, shoulder, guardrail and rumble stripe work will take place. This will also require intermittent lane closures. A final seal and pavement marking is scheduled for June, which will complete the project.
