Northwest Player Makes Division II Men’s Basketball All-Central Region First Team

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 2017-18 D2CCA NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball All-Central Region First and Second Teams have been announced as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the region. The Central Region consists of 42 men’s basketball teams from the NSIC (16 teams), Mid-America (14 teams) and Great American (12 teams) conferences. In all, 10 teams were represented with each garnering one selection.

The teams are headlined by Northwest Missouri State’s Justin Pitts, who was named the Central Region Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Pitts, the three-time MIAA Player of the Year, guided the Bearcats to another MIAA regular season and tournament championship a year after leading the squad to an NCAA Championship. The senior guard put up 18.9 points per game to go along with 5.0 assists while shooting 51.7% from the floor this season.

Joining Pitts on the First Team were Jhonathan Dunn of Southern Nazarene, Tyler Rudolph of Minot State, Harrison Cleary of Minnesota Crookston, and CJ Carr of Missouri Southern State. Dunn, the GAC Player of the Year, earns his first All-Region selection after helping the Crimson Storm to the GAC regular season and tournament titles as a sophomore. Rudolph, the NSIC North Player of the Year, joins Pitts as one of four players to be selected to the team for the second year in a row after being named Second Team last year. Cleary, the leading scorer in the region, earns his first selection while CJ Carr, who helped the Lions reach the NCAA Regional, also picks up his first All-Region honors.

The Second Team also features a pair of players who garnered All-Region recognition as Brady Skeens of Washburn and Gage Davis both earn the honor for the second straight year. The duo is joined by a trio of first-time picks in Nebraska-Kearney’s Trey Lansman, Southwest Minnesota State’s Ryan Bruggeman, and Northern State’s Ian Smith. Skeens repeats as a Second Team selection while Davis earned First Team honors last year.

Each of the five D2CCA All-Central Region First Team selections will now be listed on the D2CCA Men’s Basketball All-America ballot, which will be voted on by the CoSIDA Division II membership with the announcement of those All-American teams expected Monday, March 19
