Last night Clarinda City Council voted 3-0 to approve a downtown facade construction project to Grand Contracting of Red Oak. Grand Contracting submitted a low bid of $575,000. The project has been in the works for nearly 18 months. A clerical error in June of 2016 forced the city to reapply for a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant by Iowa Economic Development Authority and Clarinda was reawarded the grant in June of 2017. Approximately 20 downtown Clarinda businesses are expected to participate in the project. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of November.
