St Joseph School Board Votes To Close 2 Elementary Schools

The St Joseph School Board voted Monday night 6-1 to close Humboldt and Lake Contrary Elementary Schools for the 2018-19 academic year.  The closures come as part of 8.5 million in budget cuts.  The figure was 7 million, but was increased after the board voted to give staff pay increases next year.  The move comes as part of a failed tax levy vote by St Joseph voters last month.  The board says they are looking to reduce the total number of elementary schools in the district from 16 to 12.
