Emily Cordell, a senior agricultural sciences major from Skidmore, is one of two students at Northwest Missouri State to be awarded the Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship. Gilman scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply toward their study abroad or internship program costs with additional funding available for the study of a critical language overseas.
Cordell studied in New Zealand during the summer for a wine company and Pelsor is studying this fall in Morocco. Both say they could not have studied abroad without the scholarship award.
The other Northwest student given the scholarship was Kayla Pelsor. A senior political science major from Belton.
The US Department of State names the winners, which includes 1,000 undergraduates nationwide.
