Northwest Missouri State University begins its 2017-18 academic year with achieving the highest retention rate in the University’s history, according to preliminary enrollment totals released by the Office of Enrollment and Retention Management.
Northwest reports that 74 percent of its fall 2016 freshman class has returned to the University for their sophomore year. That rate is up 3 percent from a year ago and tops Northwest’s previous high set in 2006.
Additional preliminary enrollment numbers at Northwest report a freshman class of 1,253 students. Twenty-one percent of the class represents underrepresented populations, of which 4 percent are international students.
Northwest also enrolled 298 transfer students this fall, with 64 percent transferring from within the state.
All enrollment numbers are preliminary until the University’s official census occurs Monday, Sept. 25.
