Maryville Freedom Rock Painting Begins Today

Artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II is in Maryville today to begin painting the “Freedom Rock” at Franklin Park. Sorensen is from Greenfield, Iowa. Maryville was the first place outside of Iowa to reserve a “Freedom Rock.”

Besides the rock, the area around the rock will be designed to make a “veteran plaza” with flags, benches, hardscapeing, landscaping and other improvements.

Maryville Parks and Recreation is transforming Franklin Park into a “Art” park, so the Freedom Rock project will be an excellent addition to the final park transformation. The Maryville Pride Lions of Nodaway County are sponsoring the project.

The cost exceeds $30,000, so you’re encouraged to help sponsor the painting by purchasing a brick. For a brick order form or additional information contact Jeanine Montgomery at 660-562-3932 or email at jcandcompany@yahoo.com
