New Name For Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Wednesday that the Squaw Creek National Refuge in Northwest Missouri will be known as Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge. The name change stems from the word “squaw” branded as an offensive word in the National Wildlife Refuge System. The refuge derived its name from Squaw Creek, a stream that begins roughly 30 miles north of the refuge in Nodaway County.
